Banned By AdSense

You checked it dozens of times, and you continuously login to your AdSense account just to see that it too, has been disabled.

For many publishers, the first thought that comes to mind is “How will I earn any money now?”.

For others, the first thought may be “What happened?!”

In this article, we will discuss all the reasons why your AdSense account was banned, and what you can do about it.

Why Did AdSense Ban Me?

Google AdSense bans happen on two distinct levels:

  • Site Level: Google AdSense may ban individual websites for repeated content violations.
  • Account Level: Google AdSense may ban entire accounts, usually for fraudulent activity.

AdSense Site Banned

AdSense can ban sites for a variety of reasons. It is highly encouraged that you fully read their terms and conditions for publishers for more details on why your site may have been banned. The most common reasons that AdSense bans websites are:

  • Adult Content: If your website hosts images, or contains text that is overtly sexual;
  • Links to Adult Sites: If your website links to websites that host adult content;
  • Ad Placement: If you place ads in a way that deceives the user into clicking on your ads;
  • Mobile Placements: If you place a 300×250 ad unit above the fold on a mobile device;
  • Copyright Infringement: If your site hosts copyrighted material, including imagery;
  • Malware/Phishing: If your site is detected to distribute malware (can happen with low-quality ad networks)
  • Too many ad units: If you place too many (four or more) ad units on a page; or
  • User Generated Content: Ads on dating, social media, forums and chat sites.

Google AdSense has also started to crack down and ban websites that contain what they deem as “prohibited content”, “fake news”, and other categories of websites. As a result, in general, AdSense will ban sites that fall into the following categories:

  • Marijuana Sites: Even if Marijuana is legal in your state or country, AdSense will not allow you to place their ads on this type of content.
  • Right-Wing Political Sites: While controversial, AdSense has been reported to disable ad serving to sites that are viewed as “Extreme right wing”
  • Guns, Violence, Other Drugs: AdSense will not allow their ads on these sites.

What to do if your site is banned by AdSense

For the most part, AdSense appeals are a waste of time and in the majority of cases, they are not willing to work with you to re-instate ad serving on the banned domain. That said, what most webmasters do is purchase a new domain with a new TLD (.net, .org, .info etc) and migrate the site there. The new domain will be unbanned by AdSense.

It is important to know the exact reason why your site was banned by AdSense. Be sure to cross-reference our list of reasons with the content on your site, as well as the AdSense publisher terms and conditions to ensure your new domain doesn’t get banned as well.

AdSense Account Banned

A Google AdSense Account Ban is a much more serious problem then getting a site banned by AdSense. AdSense will only ban an entire account for serious issues and is virtually impossible to get back as an individual. In general, Google AdSense bans accounts for the following reasons:

  • Click & Impression Fraud: Generating significant amounts of clicks and impressions from bots;
  • iFraming: Placing AdSense ads through an iframe on another domain, in order to spoof the referring domain;
  • Multiple Accounts: If you have two unbanned AdSense accounts, Google will usually ban one of them;
  • Related to Banned Account: If Google AdSense thinks your account is related to a previously banned account, it may ban the “new account”;
